January’s stone is a garnet, representing constancy and eternity. For a first wedding anniversary, it’s traditional to present your loved one with an amethyst, which is the birthstone for February. An aquamarine – for March – is said to enhance psychic powers, and bring healing and wisdom.

Those lucky to be born in April can expect a diamond; its Latin origins names the stone ‘invincible’ and remarkable powers are passed to its wearer. It’s emeralds for May birthdays, which also represents the quality of faithfulness for a 20th wedding anniversary. Pearls are believed to enhance purity and nobility, and are the perfect gift for those born in June.

The word ruby is derived from the Latin for ‘red’, this July birthstone is fit for royalty – and 40th anniversaries. The birthstone for August is the fiery peridot, a volcanic gem that encourages strength and vitality. September’s sapphires offer their wearer truth and serenity as secret qualities.

Tourmalines and opals are for October, and are said they reflect Mother Nature’s beauty. November-born people are confident, determined and highly individual – inspired by their birthstones

the only gem to be added to the birthstone list since 1912, and represents
new beginnings for those who celebrate their birthday in December.
